Juniper berries have protective properties. My favorite
supersition claims that a juniper bush kept by your front door will prevent a witch from entering your home as she would have
to correctly count the number of needles prior to entering. The ancient Greeks used a poultice made from juniper berries for
viper bites. The berries and leaves can be burned to freshen stale air in a sick room. Juniper helps the
effects of cellulite by opening and cleansing the skin.
Chamomile Flowers have a long standing folk reputation for
promoting a relaxing night sleep. They are used in tea and health care products. Chamomile flowers seeped in lavender
oil and warm water makes a soothing poultice for sunburned skin. Their sweet, comforting scent makes a very
effective headache remedy.
Raspberry leaf is used in teas - particularly for woman. Native
American woman drank raspberry leaf tea to ease morning sickness. Fragarine, the active ingredient in raspberry leaves,
is used by physicians as a relaxant of the uterine muscles during child birth. This flower is a symbol of the Goddess
Venus.
Cloves have a wonderful gingerbread scent that is associated with baking
and the holidays. Clove studded oranges are a popular winter decoration. Cloves added to orange essential oil
and sea salts make a cheery bath salt. Place this mixture in a muslin bag and drop into warm bath water.
Cloves are antibiotic and antiseptic.
Calendula Flowers can be seeped in warm water, usually mixed with thyme and
goldenseal, to use as a poultice for sensitive and irritated skin. This mixture is gentle enough for even the most
sensitive parts of the body. Due to it's gentle nature, calendula oil is often used in baby skin care formulas.
