Drinking fresh juice to one of the best ways to add raw fruits and vegetables to your diet.

When juicing first became popular back in the 19th century it involved chopping up the fruits and vegetables and using muslin as a press to separate the fiber from the juice.

This was time consuming.  Luckily we now have electric juicers.  However, the main drawback to juicing and the reason why many people buy juicers and stop using them is the difficulty in cleaning the juicer.

I have used many different types of juicers.  I now use a commerical juicer - The Miracle Juicer Model MJ1000.   However, a cheap juicer from Target would be fine as a starter juicer.

Every juicer is difficult to clean.  There are many different parts and the pulp has a tendency to cling to the parts.  The good news is that most of the parts are dishwasher safe.

The health benefits far outweigh the inconvenience factor.  Dietary experts recommend juicing daily.

Impossible to fit into your schedule?  Once a week is better than nothing.   Unfortunately, you can not just do a mass juicing and refrigerate the juice.

The nutrients begin to break down in the juice almost immediately.  However,  I do sometimes store the juice in a non-clear container in the refridgerator for a couple of days.

The best way to fight colds and the flu is to build up your immune system.  Beneficial fruits and vegetables:
  • Green - cucumbers, parsley, celery, kale, spinach, green peppers and watercress
  • Red - carrot, tomato,  cayenne pepper (use the powdered)
  • Misc - ginger, garlic, onions and lemon

Any combination of these vegetables (to your taste) would provide a great anti cold and flu juice.

My favorite carrot juice:

  • 4 - 6 carrots with the ends removed.  California carrots are the best to use and cheap.
  • Parsley and Cilantro to taste
  • Clove of Garlic
Use a few celery stalks to push these items through your juicer.

My Gazpacho Recipe:
  • 4 - 6 vine grown tomatoes
  • 1/2  cucumber.  Use the rest of the cucumber in my Japanese Bath Recipe.  Click here for that beauty recipe.
  • Garlic Clove
  • 1/4 small onion
  • 1/4 green pepper
  • Tabasco sauce and fresh lemon juice to taste

Push the ingredients through your juicer with some celery stalks and serve with some fresh baked sour dough bread.  This is a great meal to carry around with you if you know you are going to be driving around in the car all day.

I have a insulated cooler bag that I purchased from a grocery store for $1.99.  The juice keeps just fine in this for 4 -5 hours.
